Algae to Biocrude

Algae Systems’ hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) technology converts wet biomass to liquid fuels at high temperature and high pressure. HTL can accept any concentrated organic slurry, making it an ideal fuel conversion technology for wastewater solids and concentrated algal biomass. The resulting fuel, termed biocrude, can be used directly or upgraded into a drop-in replacement for fossil crude. The HTL process is energy efficient and nearly closed loop, producing only inert and sterile fertilizer for use as a soil amendment. Algae Systems’ HTL technology is designed for flexible feed and could be employed for fuel conversion of a variety of organic resources, including primary wastewater solids, waste activated sludge, fats, oils, and grease.
